Overview
Chakdara Printing Press is a printing and promotional products company, and we built its online store to make ordering custom print work simpler. It serves businesses and individuals who need items such as branded merchandise and printed materials, from single jobs to bulk orders.
The Challenge
Print and promotional products do not behave like ordinary retail. Many items are customised, quantities vary widely and prices depend on specifications such as material, size, colours and finish, so a plain add-to-basket flow is not always enough. Buyers also want proof that the printer has produced comparable work. The store needed to combine browsing and buying with a fast way to ask for a price when the job does not fit a fixed listing.
Who Uses the Store and How
An office manager ordering branded pens for an event wants to find the item category, check the options and either buy or request a quote for a bulk quantity. An individual might buy a single customised gift. Behind the scenes, a shop administrator adds products, sets attributes, reviews incoming quote requests and follows up with customers, and a production team member relies on complete order details, including artwork notes, to avoid errors at the press.
Our Approach
We organised the catalogue by promotional category so a visitor looking for a type of item reaches it in a click, and added search for those who already know what they want. For jobs that need a price, we placed a quote request route beside the product listings. We also chose to show past work, since a client and project showcase reassures new customers more than promises do, and we wrote clear explanations for both custom and bulk orders so buyers understand the process before they ask.
What We Built
The store contains a searchable product catalogue arranged by promo category, product pages, a quote request flow, a showcase of clients and recent projects, and service sections explaining how custom and bulk orders work. Product imagery uses consistent proportions so listings stay orderly and buyers can compare items without the layout shifting.
Architecture and Data
Products, attributes, stock and orders sit in WooCommerce, with categories mirroring the promotional groupings. Attributes such as size, material and quantity can be modelled on each product where they are fixed, while the quote request captures job details that do not fit a standard variation. JavaScript powers search and interface behaviour so results respond without a full page reload. Quote requests are validated on the server and delivered to the team, with the product context attached so the printer knows what the customer was viewing.
Security, Privacy and Quality
An online store handles customer names, addresses and order history, so it should run on HTTPS, keep WooCommerce and plugins updated, and use a reputable payment gateway so card details are processed by the provider rather than the site. Any artwork uploads need type and size restrictions. We tested the quote flow with missing and oversized input, checked search with partial and misspelled terms, and reviewed the checkout on small screens.
Technology
We chose WordPress with WooCommerce because it handles catalogues, product attributes and orders well and lets the client manage products directly. JavaScript supports search and interface behaviour. Because print businesses have varied products, WooCommerce's flexibility with attributes and custom fields suited the range better than a rigid template shop.
Outcome
Chakdara Printing Press has an online store that presents its full range, shows its track record and gives buyers two routes: buy directly or request a quote. The team can keep adding products and showcased projects through WooCommerce as the work evolves.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to build an online print shop?
The main cost drivers are how many products and variations you sell, whether customers can upload artwork or use a design tool, payment and shipping integration, and how much custom design you want. A catalogue with quote requests is simpler than a full web-to-print configurator. We recommend scoping after seeing your product range.
Can a WooCommerce store handle custom print orders?
Yes, for many cases. Product attributes and variations cover options such as size or material, and a quote request form handles jobs that are too bespoke for fixed pricing. Highly configurable products with live pricing may need extra tooling.
When should a printer offer a quote request instead of fixed prices?
Use fixed prices for standard items and a quote request when price varies with quantity, finish or artwork. Offering both, as this store does, avoids losing buyers who want certainty and those who need a tailored answer.
