Overview
Epics Media is a videography studio in the Netherlands covering weddings, corporate events and diplomatic occasions. We built its website as a showcase where the work itself does the selling, aimed at couples, companies and organisations choosing who will film an important day.
The Challenge
A videographer is judged on footage, not paragraphs. The site had to put moving image first without becoming a slow page full of autoplaying files. It also served very different audiences: a couple planning a wedding wants emotion, a corporate client wants professionalism and discretion, and a diplomatic client wants formality. The structure had to let each find their own path. Video files are large, so how they are hosted and embedded decides whether the site feels premium or sluggish.
Who Uses It and How
Couples watch the showreel and wedding films, imagining their own day, then send an enquiry with a date. Event managers and communications teams look for polished corporate work and evidence of professionalism. Staff at embassies or organisations planning official occasions look for discretion and precedent. The studio owner adds each new film to the matching category after an event, which keeps the portfolio fresh without a developer.
Our Approach
We organised everything around the showreel. The homepage is video-led, and navigation separates the work by event type so each visitor reaches relevant examples quickly. A dark theme was chosen because it makes footage look its best and gives the site the feel of a cinema. We kept text light and typography refined so nothing distracts from the films.
What We Built
The site features a showreel-driven homepage, service categories for weddings, corporate events and diplomatic events, portfolio sections with embedded films, and an enquiry route for booking. Video is embedded so that it loads on demand: pages open quickly and playback begins only when a visitor chooses it. The layout adjusts for phones and large screens alike.
Architecture and Data
Films are hosted with established video platforms and embedded, so streaming, adaptive quality and playback compatibility are handled by services built for it. Each embed shows a poster image first and loads the player when clicked, which avoids downloading video code until it is wanted. Portfolio entries are structured content with a title, category, event date, description and video link, so the templates can group them by event type. The enquiry form captures event type, date and location and reaches the studio by email after server-side validation and spam filtering.
Security, Privacy and Quality
Event footage can show private individuals, and diplomatic or corporate events can be sensitive, so films are only published with the client's agreement, and unlisted or private video settings can be used where a client prefers limited visibility. Enquiry data is limited to what is needed, sent over HTTPS. Under EU rules, anyone appearing in published footage raises privacy questions, so consent handling belongs to the studio's contracts. Testing covered playback on phones and desktops, page speed with many films, keyboard access to the players and contrast on the dark theme.
Technology
We used WordPress with custom PHP and JavaScript. Videos are hosted on established platforms and embedded, which avoids the cost and speed problems of serving large files from the site's own server. Custom templates provide the dark, gallery-style layout, and WordPress lets the studio add new films after each event.
Outcome
Epics Media has a portfolio that presents its films first, sorts its services clearly for different client types and gives prospects a direct route to book. The studio can keep the site current by adding new work as it is completed. The interface avoids flashy transitions and keeps the presentation confident and quiet, letting the studio's professionalism show through the footage.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a videographer portfolio website cost?
Cost drivers include custom design, how many films and categories are shown, how video is hosted, the enquiry or booking features, and copywriting. Because video is embedded from a platform, hosting costs stay modest. Your own footage matters more than any feature.
Should a videography website host videos itself?
Usually not. Video platforms handle streaming and device compatibility better and take load off your server. Embedding from them, with on-demand loading, keeps pages fast.
How can a videographer show different services on one site?
Give each type of work its own section and examples, such as weddings and corporate events, and let visitors choose from the navigation. Each audience should see relevant films and tone without wading through the others.
