Overview
UKNurses is an online academic support service for nursing students and practising nurses. It connects learners with tutors who are working or recently practising nurses, and covers the full arc of a nursing career: applications, registration exams, degree coursework, dissertations and career progression. We built the web platform that lets learners describe what they need, get matched with the right expert and arrange one-to-one sessions online.
The Challenge
Nursing learners come from many countries and stages. One person needs help preparing for the NMC CBT or NCLEX-RN, another is writing a master's dissertation, and another is rehearsing for an OSCE. Matching each of them to a suitable tutor by hand is slow, and vague enquiries waste everyone's time. The service also handles sensitive academic and personal information and operates across time zones, so the platform needed to be easy to approach, clear about how it works and dependable about privacy.
Our Approach
We designed the journey around one simple entry point: a free consultation request that captures the learner's level and the kind of support they want. That structured intake became the basis for matching. Service content was organised by career stage so visitors recognise themselves immediately, and each stage has its own page describing what help is available. We chose Laravel because the platform is fundamentally about records and relationships, such as learners, tutors, requests and sessions, which its Eloquent data layer and validation tools handle cleanly.
What We Built
The public site presents five areas of support: nursing applications and foundations, registration exams including NMC CBT, NCLEX-RN, OSCE, OET and IELTS, nursing degree support at bachelor's and master's level, dissertation and research help covering literature reviews, methods and statistics, and career progression such as CV writing and interview coaching. A consultation form collects the learner's needs, and back-office tools help the team pair each request with an appropriate tutor. Tutor profiles communicate credentials so learners can see who will teach them, and pricing and process are stated plainly. Messaging routes such as WhatsApp and email are available alongside the form for learners who prefer to talk to someone. The layout is responsive because much of the audience arrives on mobile.
Technology
Laravel and MySQL provide a stable relational backbone for requests, matching and tutor data, with server-side validation protecting every form. JavaScript adds the interactive touches on the front end without making the pages heavy. The stack is mainstream and well supported, which keeps maintenance affordable as the service adds subjects and tutors.
Outcome
UKNurses has a structured, credible platform that turns a general enquiry into a specific tutoring match. Learners get a clear route from first question to session, and the team gains an organised intake and matching workflow instead of a stream of unstructured messages.
