TownFave — Local Discovery Platform

Overview

TownFave is a local community and business discovery platform. Its promise is simple: help people find the best spots in their town, whether that is somewhere to eat, a deal worth taking, or something to do this weekend. It is a product we designed and built, aimed at residents looking for recommendations and at visitors who do not yet know the area.

The Challenge

Local discovery is a crowded space, and most people already have a search engine in their pocket. What they lack is a fast, curated view of a town that does not bury the useful results under ads and long articles. A discovery product has to be quick to scan, easy to filter, and cheap enough to run that listings can grow over time. It also has to be found through search, because most first visits to a local guide begin on Google rather than on the product itself.

Our Approach

We started from the browsing behaviour we wanted to support: someone glancing at a phone and deciding within seconds. That led to a card-based layout in which each place, deal or activity is a compact, self-contained tile with just enough information to make a choice. Category browsing sits at the centre of the experience, so a visitor can move from restaurants to deals to things to do without starting a new search. We chose Next.js so pages could be rendered on the server, which suits a content-heavy site that needs to be crawlable.

What We Built

The site presents a browsable grid of local listings grouped by category, covering restaurants, deals and things to do. Cards are designed for quick scanning, with a consistent structure so users can compare options side by side. The homepage leads with the product's purpose and takes visitors straight into the categories. The layout adapts from large screens down to phones, since discovery usually happens on the move.

Technology

Next.js gives us server-rendered pages for search visibility, fast client-side navigation between categories, and a component model that keeps the card design consistent wherever it appears. Because the listing card is a single reusable component, new categories and new kinds of listing can be added without redesigning the interface. That keeps the platform easy to extend as more content is added.

Outcome

TownFave gives its audience a lightweight way to explore a town by category rather than by keyword. For the business behind it, the platform provides a foundation that can take on more listings, more categories and more locations without a rebuild, and its server-rendered structure means each category and page can be indexed and shared.
